Perhaps it's a bit soon to be speculating, but - with Frank Gehry's death late last year, how likely is it that plans for a nomination for the Guggenheim Bilbao (+ likely others as a serial site) start getting underway? I was interested to see that a committee member mentioned the possibility when the FLW site was up for inscription (https://forum.worldheritagesite.org/index.php?action=vthread&forum=16&topic=2233&page=19#msg22298), and it seems to me from reading some of the discussion around the Siza nomination in 2025 that no longer being about a living architect would make success more likely.
To be frank it's not obvious to me which of his other designs are distinctly spectacular - they all look rather similar to me (!). Maybe the Dancing House would be an 'easy add' since it's already protected (within the Prague WHS core zone).
A serial site would be likely to include at least one US location, though, so maybe requiring US input and co-operation would be a blocker for the moment. |
