I'd best come clean. With some multi-part sites (but not Vauban nor Le Corbusier) I have applied my own criterion rather flexibly and allowed myself to count a site if I have visited enough parts of it to have seen more than half the total area of all the parts, but always with a minimum of 2 parts. I hope that's clear.
And in one case I can recall, Vicenza and the Villas of the Veneto, I developed a severe case of Palladio fatigue and simply gave up well before the 50%+1 threshold. I felt that one visit was merely repeating what I had already seen several times. What a Philistine, eh?

Totally ;) And you still haven't ticked of Hamburg... And that is a simple day trip from Edinburgh ;)

And apeaking of Edinburgh, that would seem to be another easy site to complete if you wanted to, Iain. Are you planning to have that be your last site? At any rate, you and Atila are inspirations for those of us looking to learn more about the world. Happy travels!

ColvinI've always intended that Edinburgh would be my last WHS visit, as a drooling dotard in a wheelchair. Indeed, many years ago, when I was not much older than some of you reading this, I had a plan that by the end of 2017 I would have visited every WHS. I soon realised that that will never happen. Just another of life's cruel disappointments, I suppose.

And, I think, Colvin, you must be the first person ever to refer to me and "inspiration" in the same sentence, but I thank you for the compliment.

Congratulations to Atila who just reached #900! That's quite a feat, and must have resulted in quite a few adventures to reach that many sites!

As Els pointed out in the 2019 World Heritage Committee meeting topic, Solivagant has just passed 800 sites with this year's already inscribed sites. Congratulations to Solivagant!

Thanks very much Colvin - but it was a rather strange reaching of the "milestone" sitting in front of the screen watching the WHC inscribe the "Plain of Jars". There was no tension as it was always going to be inscribed (Unless the Lao president had suddenly decided to build a holiday complex or villa on one of the sites I suppose - but I hadn't foreseen that possibility yesterday morning!!).

I had intended to have a trip to Sweden/Norway in May which would have added the 6 I "needed" in a more traditional fashion but I looked and looked and asked myself - do I REALLY want to go to Scandinavia just to pick up - a radio station, a "copper mountain", some painted farmhouses, a power station, a Norwegian island (especially as we have recently returned from a trip up to the North Cape), a hunting landscape and a sight of the K/T boundary. Not one of these figures in my top "do" list (or even my medium priority one!!!). I then looked at the cost of 1 night at a cheap B+B in Norway and decided I just didn't "need" them - so set about planning Colombia for this November instead!
